How AI is Used on the Offensive Side of Cybersecurity
AI-Powered Cyber Threats
Hello Techies,
In my previous posts, I talked about how AI has been implemented on the defensive side of cybersecurity, specifically in detection systems and its benefits. In short, AI helps in threat detection and predictive analysis, making it easier to identify potential security breaches before they happen.
But wait, what about the dark side of AI? There is always going to be misuse of certain tools, and AI is no exception. While AI helps with detection, prevention, and automation in cybersecurity, it can also be used to benefit attackers in a pretty similar pattern. Let's find out how…
How is AI Used on the Offensive Side of Cybersecurity?
AI is being used by the "bad guys" too. They implement AI to generate very well-structured and convincing attacks. For example, phishing emails are becoming more persuasive. Imagine, prompting certain info and asking AI to write an email or even malicious code and it gives you the output in seconds….
*do not misuse AI, this is for educational purposes only * 🤓
Offensive Uses of AI:
Automating Attacks - AI can process huge amounts of data faster than humans, making it a perfect tool for generating automated attacks.
Phishing - AI is very good at mimicking human language behaviour, making phishing emails very convincing and personalized.
Malware Creation and Password Cracking - AI can quickly create malware that adapts to a system’s patterns and can crack passwords much faster. *sigh*

Does This Mean Penetration Testing is Easier Now?
At some point… yes. Even the "dark" side has its benefits, in this case for ethical hackers. By generating attacks, ethical hackers can identify security gaps and vulnerabilities in a system before the bad guys do. AI can also be used to simulate attacks for training purposes, making security professionals more prepared. Most importantly, by understanding how attacks are created and executed, cybersecurity experts can develop more effective tools and strategies to defend against them. 😌

That’s it for today. Have an awesome week ahead and do not forget to stay cyber-safe and ethically responsible!
